New Year… New Job?
As 2016 comes to an end and we're standing on the cusp of a brand new year, it's impossible not to feel like there is blank paper before you and you get to paint the picture!
A new year is often the time we reflect on where we've been and start making plans (and promises to ourselves) about what we want for the future.
From going on a diet or quitting smoking to surrounding yourself with better friends or finding the love of your life, we make a commitment to ourselves, to make the next year even better than the one before.
It's a great time to ask yourself - What do I want from my Career?
To help you evaluate your current job and circumstances, answer these questions YES or NO....
YES or NO
1. Do you enjoy your job? Do you wake up in the morning and feel happy or excited about going to work (most days)?
2. Do you have a satisfying and stimulating work environment?
3. Do you feel you can talk to your boss openly and honestly?
4. Do you feel there are opportunities for promotion? Can you grow with this company?
5. Are you good at what you do?
6. Can you see yourself with this company in 3 years time?
7. Are you satisfied with the money you earn and other company benefits?
8. Does your job suit your lifestyle / family commitments?
9. Is the location convenient?
10. Does this job look good on your CV? Is it a stepping stone to other great jobs/companies in the future?
If 5 or more of these are NO, it might be time to consider a new career in 2017...
Of course there are other factors to consider - you don't want to jump jobs quickly, you need to see the big picture (maybe the company is transitioning but the future looks bright) and sometimes you are better off for the learning experience that comes with sticking it out in a job you don't love.
Don't make any rash decisions - the grass isn't always greener, but do carefully consider your options - a new career move might be a worthwhile move in 2017.
